RS&F, I Wish I Worked Here

RS&F, I Wish I Worked Here

Rosen, Sapperstein & Friedlander (RS&F)

I Wish I Worked Here is a series full of drool-worthy workspaces that excite the mind. We cannot peel our eyes away from these spaces!

Today we are featuring Rosen Sapperstein & Friedlander (RS&F) in Towson, MD. They call themselves business consultants and accountants, but we call them one of the most forward-thinking organizations we know. RS&F is clearly accomplishing great things.

If you are an accountant, it’s absolutely critical that your work environment is conducive to the tasks at hand. Think natural light and uncluttered workspaces. Think huddle rooms to reset, recharge and handle private business. Ideally, time-sensitive and laborious documents are managed in a workplace that blends open and closed spaces, programmed and open.

And when it comes to tax time, we need to make darn sure that there is enough hospitality — and enough room for that hospitality —  to take a real meal and a real break.

The good folks at RS&F have made that utopian vision a reality in their newly appointed Headquarters. You’ll never guess from the outside what could be inside this second-story office footprint nestled in the town center, buttressing retail and restaurants. It is absolutely clear once you step inside that this team of hardworking and dedicated accountants, managers, and support staff have made a real home here.

“Let the light in”

Soft, natural light glistens everywhere you look. From the wall of windows that run the length of the street-facing facade, to the glass front offices, to the open floor plan, people here can see and be seen.

RS&F is pushing back against the idea that open office plans “do not work.”

When the entire footprint of your workspace is thoughtfully programmed and designed with the user in mind, it works…and works well.

Their Director of Operations explained it this way: “The whole set-up of this office has allowed us to foster teamwork and collaboration.”

One look into the Inspiration Room and we know just what she means. “This is a place to gather the whole firm and bring people together to learn,” she says. “Today’s world is so fast-paced and we are so busy… I can’t even imagine that behind closed doors.”

Don’t be fooled by the eye-catching design; there’s more to this buildout than a slick garage door.

The Inspiration Room would make any “tech dork” green with envy. Top technology means that training sessions and presentations can be live streamed, recorded, and shared. Anything happening on the screen and with the presenter, is easily documented and accessible by the team. Frustration is minimal.

(It’s easy to see how that aforementioned increased teamwork and collaboration thing is happening right here, when you have this kind of elevated environment.)

Work is an integral part of life. Creature comforts go a long way

RS&F is a place where basic necessities of living like a human — quality tissues and towels, silverware and good coffee— are not an afterthought. Leadership knows that those seemingly small things have a big impact on perception.

“Investment in the space shows me they care about their employees.”
–  Director of Operations

It’s all about professional peace of mind. “I can comfortably work all day because my basic needs are met,” and that’s of massive importance when it comes to managing client work during hectic tax season.

By extending hospitality as a standard operating practice, adding natural light, making the workflow logical to meet the immediate and long-term needs of employees, success has been achieved.

Designing a workplace that works just as hard as it is smart. It gives the crew space and wherewithal to do awesome things — and that’s got us saying, “We wish we worked here.”
